. . . both expressions mean "How are you?"
I learned that there are two ways to say "you" in Spanish when speaking to another person (tú and usted). I learned that:
Tú is used for friends and family. It is considered you familiar or you informal.
Usted is used for strangers, authority figures and people that you use their surnames (Mr., Mrs., Miss, and Ms).
